Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome

Abstract

Background: This patient was diagnosed as PRES on MRI brain but was normotensive and was not on any medication but still developed features of PRES.


Clinical Description: 7 year old female child came in the emergency department with GTCS and was treated as a case of status epileptics. Patient was normotensive, febrile and was not on any medication.


Management & Outcome: Patient was investigated for seizure disorder and found to have PRES on MRI brain, hence treated for the same symptomatically and was discharged on anticonvulsants.


Conclusions: Patient had seizures but was normotensive and not on any other cytotoxic medication with MRI brain showing PRES like presentation, so patient was labelled with diagnosis of PRES and was discharged on anti-convulsant.

Biography

Anant goyal is a pediatrician trained in India with a strong foundation in evidence based clinical practice and child centred care. He earned his MBBS from SRM University, Chennai and his MD in pediatrics at AFSMS, Faridabad and PGPN from Boston university. He combines hands-on clinical experience with a keen interest in academic medicine and knowledge sharing and contributed to the global pediatric literature through two published case reports in the International Journal of Contemporary Pediatrics, reflecting his engagement with clinical research and real-world problem solving. His professional interests include preventive pediatrics, pediatric infections, and growth and developmental care.
