Psychological impact of Covid-19 pandemic on parents of children with special needs
Abstract
Objective: To
determine the association of COVID-19-related characteristics with stress in
parents of children with special needs.
Patients and
Methods: A sample of 213 parents of children(aged 1-16 years) having disability
was collected through purposive sampling technique. Perceived stress scale was
administered to measure stress. Demographic questionnaire including age,
gender, income and COVID-19 related characteristics etc. was also administered.
Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic had a negative affect
on parents of children with special needs due to the restrictions imposed all
over the country. One of the few factors that increased stress among parents of
special needs children in COVID-19 were financial and social difficulties.
This was in addition to extra care of special needs children at home and fear of
infection in these children and other family members

Dr. M. Nauman is a senior developmental and behavioral pediatrician at Asia's biggest university of child health sciences. He has vast experience treating children with special needs, including ASD, ADHD, LD, IDD, CP, GDD, Sleep issues, Bullying, School issues, GAD, etc. He has also contributed to this field with many research papers.
